Symposium - Towards a Low Carbon Transport system [Hammerichsgade 1, Copenhagen, de]
[released on: 05/12/2009]
The Institution for Transport Policy Studies (ITPS) welcomes you to join an international symposium on low carbon transport system in Copenhagen on 5 December. The symposium is a pre-event to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen.
The aim of the Copenhagen symposium is to contribute to exploring what must be done in order to achieve the global goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by the year 2050. CO2 emissions from the world’s transport sector must be reduced in order to achieve the 50% goal by means of technological developments, but also by changes in transport structures. The symposium will look at what policy changes are needed in order to achieve that crucial transport target.
During the symposium, the global scenario will be introduced, followed by the panel discussion where the policy recommendations will be discussed. The particular attention will be focused on the financial support for construction of infrastructure, the promotion of the transfer of technology as well as decoupling between economy and traffic demand.
Speakers at the conference include Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Director-General of India’s The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In 2007, IPCC received the Nobel Peace Prize for its “… efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.” In his keynote speech, Dr. Pachauri will discuss what actions and policies are needed.
‘A Study of Transport System in a Low Carbon Society’ was launched with the aid of an international committee, consisting of distinguished experts from international organizations in developed and developing countries. The study analyses global and regional scenarios up to 2050 on how to reduce CO2 emissions as much as 50% compared to 2000 through back-casting approach.
Other keynote speakers include Dr. Takamitsu Sawa, Professor, Graduate School of Policy Science at Japan’s Ritsumeikan University and Mr. Lew Fulton, Senior Transport Energy Specialist at the Energy Technology Policy Division of the International Energy Agency, OECD.

[released on: 03/11/2009]
The PRONET project aimed at collecting good practice examples in the fields of Indoor Environment and Transport, in relation to health. Case studies have been collected in various countries, on a number of different topics. Case studies that have proven to be effective measures in reducing exposure or improving health were turned into fact sheets. These results will be disseminated in various ways

Buy a ’recyclable’ Christmas tree!
[released on: 01/11/2009]
If you buy a Christmas tree, buy one with roots so that you can keep it watered. When Christmas is over you can plant it in the garden. If you buy a cut tree, recycle it by having it collected by your local authorities.
