Report from the Commission to the Council and the European Parliament

The European Commission has released a report on current incentives to EMAS registered organisations in Member States. The Eco-Management and Auditing Scheme (EMAS) is a voluntary environmental management system, under which organisations evaluate, manage and continuously improve their environmental performance. EMAS registrations have been steadily declining over the past few years before stabilising more recently. The disappointing performance of EMAS has been attributed to lack of rewards in the marketplace but incentives given by governments seem to give new hope to the schema. See complete report (pdf) and EMAS website.
